„Molloy” (1951) by S. Beckett or, „I write, therefore I exist… seemingly, I don’t know, maybe”

From the abnormalities of the discursive structures to the ”abnormals” of literature, this paper launches a theme for thought to what was dichotomized as an agreed opposition between the normal(-ity) vs. the abnormal(-ity); norm vs. deviance; autistic/alienated vs. alive/normal. Society and the invention of the public sphere, the intensifying of guilt in relation to one’s self – as the Nietzchean bad conscience – emerge at the dawn of modernity as primary causes of what will be incriminated as a deviant-self /deviance and saught to be ”corrected” mainly by a strict control of the body as M. Foucault considered. Modernity brings on the social scene a phenomenon sociologists referre to as the ”self-reflexive identity” (cf. A. Giddens).

In modern literature, this modern self, the ”individual actor” who reflects on the essence of humanity itself, tries to find out what it means ”to-be-yourself” with the help of the alienated reason: deviance as ontological crisis, as a condensed expression of one’s isolation understood as loneliness. Thus the tension between reason and passion is no longer dichotomous, but co-inclusive in the narratives of the self – seen as projections towards a powerful ”inside” of the being, and not – as “Freudically” was thought to be – a withdrawal from reality. This is what I have analysed in the study bellow, following the mirage of the literary machine from S. Beckett’s “Molloy” and the new type of character it proposes, Molloy as Homo Natura, a genuine ”producer of intensive quantities” (apud. G. Deleuze & F. Guattari).

This paper tries to give a survey on a pilot discipline – Digital Humanities – that tries to apply computational methods to literary study. Franco Moretti, Vincent Miller or Matthew L. Jockers are the pioneers of a theoretical model concerned with the possibility of distant reading or macroanalysis. The advantages, but also the risks of this theoretical framework, are subject of analysis. The new methods give a better account of global phenomena in the history of literature (aiming at restructuring the world canon), but they cannot omit the problem of subjectivity in hermeneutics. Despite its scientific premises, digital analysis is dependent on the theoretical input of the researcher.

M. Blecher’s Poetry. Cultural Context, Publishing, Reception, Macro Data

The following paper tries to approach a not so well researched part of M. Blecher’s literary creation, mainly his poetry. Given the high level of appreciation and popularity that his prose works have achieved for the past few years (not only in Romania), it is only fair to come up with an exploration of his poetry. But in order to understand or analyze Becher’s poetry, we need to clearly mark the cultural coordinates of the time when it appeared, as well as the production process of the only poetry book he published (Transparent Body). These coordinates and on the three classic parts of the production process are the subject of this paper.

The present study examines the cohabitation of four different poetics in the writings of Mircea Cărtărescu. Usually considered a typical and superlative postmodernist writer, Cărtărescu is much more complicated than that; besides being a postmodernist, he is also a mannerist (in the meaning given to the concept by Gustav René Hocke), an ironist (as Richard Rorty defined the concept), and a confessional writer. The study observes how these four poetics mingle and influence each other, creating the unique typology of Cărtărescu’s literature.

”The Diary” of Octav Șuluțiu, between nothingness and authenticity

This article is a research on the diary of the Romanian writer Octav Șuluțiu, based on the existing edition, but also taking into account the unpublished, slightly different version kept at National Museum of Romanian Literature. The focus is on the relationship between the author and the text, assuming the idea that both reflect one another. Since Șulutiu claimed that his diary should be destroyed by all means after his death, and his will was strictly followed by his wife, we confront with a case of a symbolic and real „suicide” of the text by its own author. The diary would function as a depository of the biological, real author, since his death has to be reflected by the diary’s death. From this perspective, the diary is refused any transcendence, the function of an eternal Work of art to survive his author. But, at the same time, this perfect mirror of the author’s self, even if this self is perceived in the diary as a vaccum, as a void space, reflects perfectly the unpredictable, unstable inner movements of his author. The negative, but hopefully true image of the author’s self is rendered in this existentialist text whose aim is not to make literature from the miseries of one’s mediocre life, but to try to be honest to himself, not adorned for the others, but authentic to himself. At all costs, including self-destruction. That is why Șuluțiu’s diary, even not so famous for the history of Romanian literature, is a singular instance of deliberate non-literature, anyway, an exceptional document for the existentialist credo.

Sensuality and Eroticism in Eminescu’s Poems. The Illusion and the Sophism

It is a known fact that romanticism is thought by many as having only a transcendental side, but the subject I insist on in this paper has to do with the conjunction of the romantic immanence and trancendence embodied by the stereotype of a blonde evanescent girl, having blue eyes and red cheeks. The philosophy of the romanticists is the philosophy of the Whole, the achievement of the supreme spiritual type of love through the sublimation of the mundane acts of love. At the end, my paper tries to infer that the scaffolding of the romanticism is based on a sophism.

Nation, Communitarianism, Peace and Globalisation: Relationship with Vulnerabilities

In general, human progress was achieved through the accumulation of simple to complex … Nations appeared and were developed on its basis then, there were communities (European, American, Asian, International, etc.), often stimulated by the need progress, by the success in competition by peace. The transition to globalization was obvious and reveals itself today as a natural process. With multiple causes, mainly economic, especially the need for smooth movement activities. For example, the globalization of capital markets, labor market – with incidences since antiquity – but also products etc.

What factors favor such processes? What factors interpose, hampers? Such developments are manifest realities? But the prospect?

Here the object of my research, addressing some complex horizons: nation, peace, war, integration, migration, globalization, terrorism. All this in a world as troubled as ours.

Keywords: nation, integration, globalization, peace, war, migration vulnerabilities.

Media event: The relics of St. Andrew in Romania

Can a religious manifestation be a media event? Is the media interested in religious events? The research brings an answer to these questions by analysing the media impact of the Pilgrimage with the relics of St. Apostle Andrew in Romania (October 2011). The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that this pilgrimage was a media event and to underline the great importance of the event for the Romanian society. The pilgrimage with the relics of St Andrew was a historical event for the Romanian people and the media paid a great attention to these manifestations which met all the features of a media event.

Arșavir Acterian – a member of the Generation ‘27

Generation ’27 was a nucleus composed of bright effervescent youngsters, each of them active with excellent results in various fields such as economics, philosophy, literature etc. Arșavir Acterian was, in the beginnings of this movement (designed as „generation 27” by Dan C. Mihăilescu), one of its foremost representatives. Quite surprisingly, he did not come to build the major work he seemed to be destined for; both the political and social straits of his life and the fact that he devoted most of his time to helping his mother and sister led him to limit his intellectual activity to sharply commenting the everyday life in his diary – which thus became his masterpiece.

The present paper studies the most important theoretical contributions of The Association regarding the co-operative movement from the beginning of the twentieth century. We focused on the 1901-1914 period because it represents the moment when Astra got involved in this endeavour. I will not deal in the following with the work on the properly organization of co-operatives, but only on the theoretical contributions published in Transylvania magazine.

The Lucian Blaga – Nicolae Iorga relationship. Between adulation and negation, or a crossroad of destinies

The present article represents an analysis of the relationship between two major Romanian writers, Lucian Blaga and Nicolae Iorga, quite friendly in its beginnings, but trasnformed in a strong opposition with the gradual assertion of the poet in the literary life of the period. Which were the causes of this radical change, and also which were its consequences ? The article aims at answering these two questions, which, as simple as they may seem, actually realize an overview of the whole cultural field of the Romanian interwar.

Antonio Gramsci’s vision on the creation of the modern italian state

The present intervention focuses upon the recent publication of Ioana Cristea Drăgulin`s book, Crearea statului italian în viziunea lui Antonio Gramsci (Antonio Gramsci`s Vision on the Creation of the Modern Italian State), Adenium Publishing House, Iaşi, 2016 and proposes three essential knots of reading its articulation. The first one is interested in a retrospective perspective, careful to periodization and broad contexts, in which Gramsci`s thinking essence (fragmented and diverted) was fixed. The second fills the gaps and corrects the Gramscian syncopated reception, describing Gramsci`s interpretative categories applied to the Risorgimento phenomenon; and, not at least, the book reaffirms the double involvement of Ioana and Sabin Drăgulin in rebuilding, reconnecting, and fair restitution of Gramsci`s works.

Constancy in Diversity

The diversity of literary discourses reveals not only the complexity of themes of the Magrebin writers, but also the need to explore an identity that refuses to show its vulnerabilities. The recent postcolonial studies affirm the intricacy of the literary phenomena, by shaping a map in which the biographical architecture announces a new type of writer and reader. The francophone literatures expose with clarity the intolerance, the privilege of being different and the search of freedom, the permanent tension between identity and dissimilarity, the acceptance of all kind of rules and taboos.

Analyze and Essay interpretation of the Romanization and Its Consequences

Professor Lucian Boia’s1 work addresses the historical process of centralization, unification and compliance of the Romanian provinces from an interdisciplinary perspective. It treats the process gradually as they integrated into the structures of the Romanian State starting with the Union of the Principalities (1859) and continuing with the period between the Two World Wars, then the communist times and the contemporary ones. In this context, the author limits himself only to the analyze of the historical evolution line called “Romanization” – strategy which was assumed constantly, monitored and coordinated by the political elites at power. In his essayistic – interpretative endeavor, the author reaches the debatable conclusion that we have reached to the “almost entirely” disappearance of the ethnic, religious, multicultural diversity from a very diverse population from cultural, ethnical, religious linguistic such the one existing in the Old Kingdom, and then in the Great Romania from between the two World Wars. Particularly, as result of the communist domination, the nowadays Romania presents itself more “Romanized” than ever. Unfortunately, the Romanians themselves have been Romanized by isolating them from the values of the Western culture, action promoted by the communist regime.
