Abstract

On the documentary value of catalogues and book registers – their use in the history of the reception

The objective of the research connected to the history of readings has been the study of the history of the reception of current European intellectuals. Therefore, the author proposes the systematic study of the catalogues of institutional libraries, the index geminus of the catalogue or the index of authors in alphabetical order and the thematic index. It presents these registers as sources to be used in the history of the book, focusing mainly on the books read in a library. As it is impossible to identify all the notes in all registers, the author of the study proposes the identification of the authors of certain works and universal titles (titulus universalis) recorded in the period of interest. The results will provide statistical analyses, which will continue to contribute to the history of the reception of intellectual currents.
