Abstract

The article analyzes Radu Jude’s 2023 feature film Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World. The analysis focuses on the “dialogues” or “conversations” conducted here by Jude with several other films, including his own first feature, The Happiest Girl in the World (2009), and Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021), Lucian Bratu’s Angela Goes On / Angela Moves On (1981), and Maren Ade’s Toni Erdmann (2016). Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World is also considered as a critique of contemporary global capitalism, as an argument against slick filmmaking, and as a demonstration of Jude’s stated interest in the cinematic possibilities of TikTok and Zoom.

Keywords: Romanian cinema, Radu Jude, anti-capitalism, neo-punk, intertextuality, Uwe Boll, TikTok, Zoom.
