Frithjof Schuon and the effort of understanding Islam

Understanding Islam is nowadays a very difficult task. Unduly associated with terrorism, violence and intolerance, Islam is hard to understand by a secular European society. However, Islam remains a genuine belief, a religion offering its own path for complete liberty and eternal life. Redemption, divine knowledge and eternal living are no longer issues for Westerners, that is why Islam is hard to comprehend. The article offers a brief insight on the pillars of Islam, focusing on the importance played by doctrine, the daily practice, the Quran and the Prophet himself, as the best image of Man and the guide of mankind. Although brief, the insight could be enough to make understand that Islam is one of the ways of attending the perfection of our earthly living and one specific way of getting the divine knowledge and the inner freedom.

Knowledge and the Communicational Sphere

The communicational sphere emerges as a heterogeneous, polyphonical, interference-breeding and eventharboring frame, not lastly pseudo-gnoseological, in which the symbolic forms, as instruments of communication and knowledge, are structuring an interpretive and constructive process, while delineating standards for the statusquo of knowledge. The operational, the functional and the exploitable, as well as the ideological narrowing resulting from tracing and reconfiguring certain meanings determines an erosion of the critical conscience and even a defeat of reason in the battle for the domination over information, social values and patterns that are instrumental in decrypting meanings.

Narrative Transpositions of the Toponymical Legends in the Area of Slănic Prahova

The article approaches the origins of local culture in the area of Slănic Prahova, especially the legends of the analyzed area. The legend can be performed in a variety of reportable environments without age and gender differentiation. There is an interdependence between the function, the story situation and the legendary environment of the legend. The deciphering of the Slănic Prahova area has been achieved through an urban ethnology investigation that has given the site its unique profile status. The field researched reveals an area known since antiquity, due to the exploitation of the salt, but also of the historical personalities who have been involved in the development of this area.

The article only focuses on the segment of the legend that outlines a heavily loaded area from the historical and folkloric point of view and which will give authenticity to the Slănic Prahova area and is the first ethnological case study in this area based primarily on the oral information, on several documents in the manuscript.

The Unity and the Unification of Language in the Discussions of the Transylvanian Press in the 19th Century

In Transilvania, most of the publications mirrored the fight for political unity. The majority of the editors and the collaborators were interested in the unity and unification of the language and suggested concrete ways of accomplishing it by pointing out the common nature of the language, reconsidering its Latin origin, organizing a scientific leadership in the field able to fulfilling the unity of the language at all its levels: vocabulary, phonetics and grammar. A special attention is given to the development of the national- patriotic feeling, the result of a close connection between language and nation.

The Poetry of Shoah: Demonstrations of Solitude

The following study focuses on Holocaust poetry’s status with respect to the relation between the language and culture which represents the main issue when dealing with the Jewish poetry of the twentieth century. Holocaust poetry is based on authentic, original manifestations of common society experiences in that age. In all cases, this kind of new poetry used to be completely detached from older traditions. This is not a central characteristic of Holocaust poetry and Israeli culture in the first half of the last century, yet mystics seldom view themselves as standing in the middle of a culture. It is sufficient proof, however, to the fact that the varieties of Jewish mysticism expressed have not been exhausted. However, the poets of Holocaust were those who profoundly insert the trauma and confession in the subject of poetry. It was clear that they did not treat their personal problems of a poem lacking in depth, rather they talked about the silence of God, who was hiding His face when in contact with poetic interpellations.

Keywords: Holocaust poetry; Israeli culture; halutsim; trauma; poetic language.

„Historically Accurate Inventions!” Fiction and Factuality in Ursula Ackrill’s novel „Zeiden im Januar”

Born in Braşov in 1974, the novelist Ursula Ackrill has graduated her studies in the Romanian “Andrei Șaguna” Highschool in Sibiu, Romanian Orthodox Theology, as well as German Studies at the University in Bucharest. She lives in the United Kingdom where she has obtained in 2003 a PhD in philology from the University of Leicester with a thesis on Christa Wolf. She debuted with the novel Zeiden, im Januar [Codlea in January] in 2015, being shortlisted in the same year for the Prize of the Leipzig Book Fair. The theme of the novel is the relationship of the German community in Romania with the German Nazi party, but it also refers to the two extremist currents present in Romania in the interwar period: Erneuerungsbewegung (Renewal Movement) and the Legionary Movement. The present article focuses on the analysis of the novel in terms of the fictional and factual; and in my opinion, we have a type of postmodern narrative, the best concept describing it being metahistoriographical fictionality.

Key words: Ursula Ackrill, Renewal Movement, Legionary Movement, fictionality, factuality, metahistoriographical fictionality.
